Natalie has a friendly Newfoundlander/Acadian heritage (no accent) and delivers a unique “coffee style” dialogue in session through a trauma-informed lens. She hosts a unique, comfortable environment and is a regular participant in her clienteles’ overall health and case management. You can expect a strong dedication to consented collaboration with other professionals, as beneficial and needed, to provide exceptional care. She likewise inspires clients for feedback on sessions and the direction of their journey.
Accountable clients who are curious yet ready, motivated, and are self-reflective work best with Natalie, yet wants and encourages clients to show up as themselves. Natalie considers your attachment style and creates a personalized therapeutic rapport based on this. Clients are able and safe to advocate for themselves, work toward developing any and all healthy living value system(s), and contribute to setting the pace of the session with her. She also aims to adjust appointments to the personal comfort, space, and trust level(s) of every individual coming to the Clinic. A careful navigation on how clients may vary from session to session is implemented based on the person’s memory and retention level(s), dissociation and learning style(s). As she gets to know her clients, she values and explores to connect with their personality
She’s not a veteran, but has been around and affiliated with the military community in various local, national and international capacities since 1998, and worked under the umbrella of corrections and mental health as a frontline worker for 13 years. Her patience, mediation and interpersonal skills comes from extensive work experience and training, and a history of defusing hostile and sometimes violent situations in residential care. She also offers various tones of voice and approaches to help regulate, verbally brace, calm, reassure, empower and motivate you.
Natalie has previous employment and a demonstrated bedside manner otherwise including: cleaning hospitals and medical clinics, providing personal care, grooming, feeding, physical support and assistance for elderly patients, working with those who have intellectual disabilities, youth in and out of foster care/group homes, and was an in-home care provider through the Alternative Family Living Arrangement program.
Natalie is an insured Licensed Counselling Therapist – Candidate with the College of Counselling Therapists of New Brunswick (CCTNB), and a Canadian Certified Counsellor in good standing with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). She also obtained her Masters in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University, a graduate certificate in Mental Health Psychology from the University of Liverpool in England, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from UNBSJ.
She’s a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist through Arizona Trauma Institute International, and offers Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Narrative Exposure Therapy, weaves in elements of Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) into sessions, and talk therapy methods when suitable and appropriate for trauma clientele.
