The Prevention of Sanctuary Trauma

Valhalla Visions Counselling Clinic implements high standards of care and open communication with clientele. "Sanctuary trauma" is when a person who has suffered severe stressors and life adversities then encounters further and indisputable harm in what was expected to be a safe, supportive and protective environment. This is not the same as, for example, a misunderstanding that could be clarified and repaired if needed, or at length a client and practitioner not being a good match, etc.

Many individuals coming to the Clinic are enduring Operational Stress Injuries, up to and including experience with internal discrimination/abuse on top of the demands of their work, and/or complex physical and mental wellness challenges. They typically hold a higher regard and respect for structure, being informed and consistency. It comes from having worked in occupations where a chiselled character and professionalism is needed because it can mean life or death. Other clients coming to the Clinic who have not worked in these environments may have been on the receiving end of a very long series of tragic and adverse life events. They require and receive the same level of care here.

Diversity and Inclusion

The Clinic has a strong interest in supporting and embracing a variety of methods for spiritual, animal assisted, sacred and native healing, but also recognizes and strives to balance the benefits of modern medicine, regulations and continuing education. VVCC does not take sides with anything other than anyone’s best interests for care. This also includes the best interests of the Clinic.

Master's Degree Students

The Clinic will not be accepting students in the foreseeable future.

Warmest Regards,
